Answered what, where, when query (last updated 22 September 2013) Main What, when, where page.
Image from a member - help wanted as outlined please.
The query raised was:-
Poole Harbour / Hamworthy - What make is this engine? The only photo of it was taken on this visit and it was later scrapped by Poole Harbour Commissioners circa 2010. I never went back to get more details and it was scrapped circa 2010 by the owners, PHC. Posted info' elsewhere conflicted - suggestions it might have been a Yorkshire Eng Co product or an ex-BR class 02 come up when you Google for info on it. Any details as to the make and origin of the loco please?
The answer is:-
The photo taken at Poole is of a Thomas Hill built loco, works no. 173V of 1966. Before arriving at Poole it had been overhauled being fitted with a plate reading 'Yorkshire Engine Co.. L116 re-worked 1993' and was still there in 2007. Information from Colin Stoe's excellent Oakwood Press published tome 'Rails to Poole Harbour (2nd. edition 2007) pages 119 to 121. The reconstituted "Yorkshire Engine Company" based at Long Marston operated between 1988 to 2001.
